The Laughing Kookaburra - Sold Out at the Retail Store

2012 Map-Shaped Kookaburra
No matter your location on the globe, we are all accustomed to hearing birds chatter in the mornings and evenings. Australia may have one of the most unique bird calls the world over.

The laughter of the Kookaburra is well known all throughout the land of Australia. In certain areas of the continent, it is common to have a Kookaburra visit your patio. The Kookaburra uses their "laugh" to establish territory amongst family groups.

The Kookaburra is the national animal of Australia. Each year since 1990 the Perth Mint has issued coins celebrating the Kookaburra.

The Perth Mint has commemorated their native chattering bird with many different coins. But none quite as attractive as this one. The 2012 $1 Map Shaped Kookaburra 1oz Silver Proof Coin is the first design in the exciting new Australian Map-Shaped coin series. This series will depict native Australian Animals.

The Perth Mint released this coin to the public within the last week and it has already sold out of their retail store. With a limited mintage of 6,000 this coin is going straight to collectors and will likely be a very hard coin to find in the near future. www.coinmerc.com is among the dealers that receive allocation directly from the Perth Mint and currently we are offering one of the lowest prices available for this coin.
