Henry VIII, Love him or Hate him.

The Royal Mint released a coin series in 2009 in honor of the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's ascension to the throne. At first glance, many people would not understand why such a person would be deserving of such commemoration. But if you can look past his many flaws you will see that Henry VIII also did many positive things.

Dave Knight, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, Said: "Love him or hate him, Henry VIII is undoubtedly one of history's most influential monarchs. His reign changed the face of England for ever and we felt it was essential that this remarkable period of history was commemorated with a lasting and treasured memento."

2009 Henry VIII 1.25oz Gold Proof Coin
As possibly one of the most charismatic rulers to sit on the English throne, he created many changes that effect the English Royalty even today.

Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was separating England from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. At the time, England, along with many other countries were devout Roman Catholic Countries and looked to the Pope and the Church for guidance. Henry VIII created the idea that you didn't need authority from an outside force to govern his country.

He is attributed to being one of the founders of The Royal Navy. During his reign he increased the number of naval ships from 5, to 58. Quite an accomplishment considering the profound effect of The Royal Navy following his reign.

We are offering three versions of this commemorative coin, a 1.25oz Gold Proof Coin, a Piedfort 58.56g Silver Proof Coin, and also a 28.28g Silver Proof Coin.

Spot Prices on a Downfall

Now is the time to act on the falling prices of precious metals.

On July 1st 2011, the price of gold was at a price of $1,498/oz. Today, June 22nd 2012, the price is at $1,567/oz and has a downward trending pattern right now. Which interestingly follows suit to last years pattern. Through the 2011 summer months the price of gold soared to World All Time high of $1,907/oz on August 28th 2011. I myself am a firm believer in learning from history and believe that by end of summer 2012 the price of gold will be significantly higher than it is today.

If you invested in gold last summer I'm sure you are already aware of this trending pattern. If not, I advise you to do your research and make an educated decision on whether or not to invest in precious metals. In the fall of 2011 there were two types of gold investors, the type that said, "Ya know, IF I would have invested in gold in June of 2011 I would have received a 22% return on my investment in just 3 short months.", keyword "if". Or the type that is enjoying the fruits of such a high ROI.

Gold can take a significant amount of money for a substantial investment. On the other hand, Investing in Silver allows you to get more weight for your dollar. Just as Gold, in the same time frame of June 2011 to Sept 2011, Silver also had a significant increase in spot price. From $33/oz to $43/oz. A 23% percent ROI. Fast-Forward to today and the spot price of Silver is at $26.96/oz. I don't know what comes to mind when you see that figure. But in my mind I see the perfect opportunity to buy.

China 2012 1/2oz Gold Panda
Now to bring this concept to a numismatic field. When you factor in the power of human emotions and impulses, it has been proven time and time again that adding a theme to modern world rare coins can tremendously increase the prices. For instance, the Panda series coming from China has shown HUGE increases in prices. A panda that sold for $2,249 in April 2008 was sold for $41,669 at auction in March 2011. That is absolutely incredible! The value of this coming purely from an extremely limited mintage and popularity of a theme.

In the end, it comes down to doing the research and making an educated guess. We cannot predict the future, but we can plan to create a better future.

Remember, there are no guarantees about whether or not a coin or any collectible, material thing or instrument in any asset class will increase in value and past performance of a coin's return is not indicative of future results.

Save on Rare Modern World Gold and Silver

For the latter half of June we are offering a 10% discount coupon off orders over $200.00.
Here at www.coinmerc.com we value both the investment opportunity and the themes of the coins we sell.

Precious Metals are a great way to protect your dollar and diversify your investment portfolio. But the Modern World coins of today offer so much more than the weight in metal. A theme that strikes the minds of our customers like no other.

One of thee single most creative, detailed sets I've personally seen comes from the New Zealand Mint, issued for the country of Niue.

Star Wars

In 1977 A New Hope was released and grossed over $775 Million from just the overall theater ticket sales. For the entire series, over $4,300,000,000. If you factor in entire franchise merchandise sales its over 22 billion. The world clearly has an interest in Star Wars and Niue has created a commemorative coin series that is truly on par with such a world wide phenomenon.

Each set has four 1oz Silver Proof coins. The Darth Vader Set features coins depicting, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, a Storm Trooper, and the Death Star. The coolest feature of this set comes upon opening the case. When you open the case you hear Darth Vader's world famous villainous breathing.

The Millennium Falcon set also has four 1oz Silver Proof Coins. This set features coins with characters from "The Force". One coin for Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, R2-D2 and C-3PO, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Much like the Darth Vader set, upon opening the Millennium Falcon set you hear Authentic Movie Sound Effects of the ship "Jumping to Light Speed".

Another epic sci-fi film being celebrating on coins comes from Tuvalu. The Transformers coins featuring heroes and villians such as Optimus Prime and Megatron are wonderful 1oz .999% Pure Silver coins with great color detail.

World War II

60 years ago. On the day of June 6th, 1944 the Allied Forces stormed France's Omaha beach by land, air and sea. D-Day. Thousands of American, Canadian and British soldiers, under cover of the greatest air and sea bombardment of history, broke through the "impregnable" perimeter of Germany's "European Fortress" in what was the first phase of the invasion and liberation of the Continent. The Allied forces achieved perhaps the most significant victory in one of the greatest wars this world has known. World War II.

Such a battle could not have been won if not for the operations occurring in the air above. Tactical bombardment of enemy positions was critical to the invasion. The objective of the airborne assault was to slow the enemy's ability to organize and launch counter-attacks. The airborne operations were aimed to seize key objectives, such as bridges, road crossing, and terrain features.

Some 13,000 American paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions landed in occupied-France in the early morning in coordination with the naval advancement. Although the paratroopers faced much opposition, being scattered and at times surrounded by enemy forces. The courage of these paratroopers showed through as they banded together, behind enemy lines. They were able to achieve success in their missions.

The country of Niue recognizes the addition of Nose Art to the Allied aircraft. Typically this artwork was added to the aircraft by the pilots and troops assigned to the craft. This Nose Art was said to be an expression of memories of home and peacetime life. A type of psychological protection against the stresses of war and probability of death. The Niue 2011 WWII Nose Art 1oz Silver Proof Coin Set, was created in celebration of this famous wartime imagery.

Whether you have the financial ability to celebrate this cause or not. Please take the time to celebrate those that fought for our freedoms during the 2nd World War.

Summers here Dads and Grads

It's that time of year again. That wonderful time of year when the sun comes out...and stays out. When your children and grandchildren are graduating from school. When after a years worth of hard work, its time to pack your bags for a summer getaway. That's right folks. Its Summer.

Typically, summer is the time to go out, have fun and spoil the family. AKA impulsively spend your hard earned dollars. This summer's challenge to everyone, including myself, is to spend a little less on impulse, and spend a little more time into investing towards your families future.

Today, there is an entire market of very low mintage modern world coins. Coins being made almost entirely of Gold, Silver, Platinum and more uncommon metals such as palladium. What is particularly neat about modern rare coins, is the theme that comes along with them.

Coins today are being made in commemoration to all the wonderful things this world has to offer. All of the historical events that shaped the world we live in today.

From Belarus, a country in eastern Europe, we offer the 2012 Nine Silver Coin set of The Solar System. Each coin is 10 grams of .925 silver. The exquisite presentation of this coin leaves a lasting impression in my mind. Throughout history, mankind has been intrigued by the solar system above us. This coin set is a great opportunity not only to teach your young astronomers the wonder of space. But also offers an opportunity to invest in your young astronomers future. Their are millions of coin collectors around the globe, yet only 11,111 of this set will be created. With a low mintage such as this, it is hard not to imagine the growth potential in, 5, 10 even 50 years when your young astronomer has grown and is continuing the passing of the knowledge down the family tree.

That is the value of today's modern rare coin market. The chance to own a precious metal that has withstood the test of time, that also offers a sentimental value to you and your loves ones. A simple gift. A shared passion. A timeless memory. Have a look through our store. But I ask this while you search, search for coins that have themes that intrigue your mind and will intrigue the minds of your family and friends for years to come. That is the true value.

Lastly, there are no guarantees about whether or not a coin or any collectible, material thing or instrument in any asset class will increase in value and past performance of a coin's return is not indicative of future results.

The Laughing Kookaburra - Sold Out at the Retail Store

2012 Map-Shaped Kookaburra
No matter your location on the globe, we are all accustomed to hearing birds chatter in the mornings and evenings. Australia may have one of the most unique bird calls the world over.

The laughter of the Kookaburra is well known all throughout the land of Australia. In certain areas of the continent, it is common to have a Kookaburra visit your patio. The Kookaburra uses their "laugh" to establish territory amongst family groups.

The Kookaburra is the national animal of Australia. Each year since 1990 the Perth Mint has issued coins celebrating the Kookaburra.

The Perth Mint has commemorated their native chattering bird with many different coins. But none quite as attractive as this one. The 2012 $1 Map Shaped Kookaburra 1oz Silver Proof Coin is the first design in the exciting new Australian Map-Shaped coin series. This series will depict native Australian Animals.

The Perth Mint released this coin to the public within the last week and it has already sold out of their retail store. With a limited mintage of 6,000 this coin is going straight to collectors and will likely be a very hard coin to find in the near future. www.coinmerc.com is among the dealers that receive allocation directly from the Perth Mint and currently we are offering one of the lowest prices available for this coin.

An Elegant Investment to Start the Summer.

Belarus 2008 50 Rubles Lynx 1/4oz
Gold Proof Coin with Diamond Eyes
With the recent spikes in precious metal spot values and rumors of gold possibly jumping above $2000 by summers end. Now is a better time than ever to invest in precious metals. In the last week, I have personally seen gold jump from below $1550/oz to today's price over $1625/oz. A 4.7% increase within a week. That gets me feeling the coaster is starting to go up again like we saw last summer.  Many people agree Gold is on the rise yet again. Analysts at Morgan Stanley named Gold among its top picks, Saying that prices may reach as high as $2,200.

If you haven't considered investing into precious metals and modern world numismatics, you could be missing out. Coin Minting companies all around the globe are creating new rare and unique opportunities for investment. Some coins on the market today sell out from the mint and issuing authorities within days.  Sky rocketing the value over in the upwards of 100%.

Now is the time to act on your next great investment opportunity. The research is available, all odds are pointing towards a rise in gold prices throughout the summer.

Be sure to visit our site www.coinmerc.com for all your numismatic needs. If we do not have a coin on our site, let us know we will do our best to find it for you.

What is a Coin Merc Point?

Today's topic of discussion is the Coin Merc Reward Point. What is it? How do I get it? What is it worth?

A Coin Merc Reward Point is something that you earn for every dollar spent in our online store. You can use these reward points for future purchases you make in our online store. Essentially we are offering a service that gives you a discounted price on our inventory for being a return customer. Without our customers, we would not have a business. So this is one way we show appreciation to our customers.

For the month of June, we are going to Double the exchange rate of these points. Typically, 100 Coin Merc Points equates to one Dollar but in June these rates will be doubled. That's right folks. Doubled. Instead of 100 Coin Merc Points equaling One Dollar, 100 Coin Merc Points will equal Two Dollars.

On top of that we are going to offer Double the points you receive on your purchases!

So if you have been saving up those points. Now is the time to use them.
